This episode was what I would call, a lead-up. That’s not to say it disappointed… After a combination attack that would have seemed slightly more than unlikely in 2002, Luffy and his motley crew finally drop in to Level 4, The Burning Heat Hell. Unfortunately there’s a crew waiting for him that include all of the highest ranked members of Impel Down. This episode may have included too many crap-jokes for some tastes, but it did offer some very good foreshadowing to what’s coming next. The music in the last couple episodes have also been outstanding, mixing a nice combination of both new and old. Animation director Takeo Ide did just about all the justice that could be done with this episode. Though better than last weeks, this episode still lacked a lot of conflict or movement in the plot. We did, however, get some good exposition as we moved through Level 4 of Impel Down and saw nearly the full cast of characters (sans Saldeath and his Blugori) from this arc thusfar. What definitely made this episode was the always-comedic appearances of Mr. 2, who spun and danced through the whole episode. It made for some very entertaining scenes including what I’ll call “The Prisoner Dance-Off.” I’d give this episode a 7 out of 10. Good for exposition, but this arc hasn’t even gotten started yet.
